Did your mind strike a chord while looking at the title?
Did you recall things which have led you to brood over the title?
There are things in life you really want to have or you want to own. As soon as you dive into that sea, you don’t get hold of that desire, but you get lost amidst it. You lose yourself to that desire. You lose yourself. You get lost within.
Has it been the case with you regarding anything? If yes, you must be nodding your head while reading the above lines skeptically biting your lips feeling a whole load of anxiety. Owning some things don’t solve your problem, it only increases it; of course with a loss, which could be anything. And you find yourself standing at the same point where you started from. In this one full circle of life, you end up at the starting point with nothing that you had gained from the external world.
The things you own end up owning you. It’s only after you lose everything that you’re free to do anything.
– Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club
I firmly believe in this quote. These ‘things’ are what your life revolves around. Some things take a toll on your mind in such a way that it becomes difficult to part away with. The desire fever rises on you and gets high with time.
This could involve simple cases like owning a pencil box to a smartphone to huge desires like owning a part of this world. We don’t realize when we get obsessive about things, when we start to crave for them. Then the unthinkable happens and the fact that it could not be described makes it all the way dangerous.
Here is a part of a song, “The things you own end up owning you”, by the band, Stray from the Path.
There’s always something trying to keep me down.
Every day, same hour, some voice is calling me, calling me.
Further from happiness, I’m losing my fucking mind,
wishing I was closer to ending this.
You need to free yourself from the inhibitions and get going. At some point of time you need to let go off the rational thinking, the presumed consequences and just give it a try.
But, never surrender. NEVER.
